Pacific Coast Highway

The scenic stretch of CA-1 known as the Pacific Coast Highway is known for its incredible ocean views. We recommend the portion of the PCH running between Jamboree and San Clemente as the best route for bikers. Attractions along this route include Crystal Cove State Park, San Clemente State Beach, and Laguna Beach. The charming seaside town of Corona del Mar is the perfect place to stop for a burger and a boardwalk stroll.

Ortega Highway

Ortega Highway runs between San Juan Capistranto and Lake Elsinore, in Riverside County. Beginning at Interstate 5, this route cuts through a wide variety of landscapes, from sprawling countryside to dramatic alpine vistas, with plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. It’s also well worth branching out to explore some of Riverside County’s beautiful backroads.

Santiago Canyon & Live Oak Canyon

Santiago Canyon Road offers a picturesque ride through the undulating desert landscape. Starting from Chapman Ave and Jamboree Road, head south until you reach Cook’s Corner, a popular roadhouse that marks the end of Santiago Canyon Road.

From there you can take Live Oak Canyon Road, a smaller tree-lined road that winds through the countryside, where you can expect to find exciting elevation changes and charming scenery. This road continues for 3 miles before arriving at O’Neill Regional Park, where you can stretch your legs on one of the park’s many hiking trails.

Carbon Canyon Road

Starting as Lambert Road east of the 57 Freeway in Brea, CA, Carbon Canyon Road offers an escape from modern life. This rural route is lined with quaint villages that evoke a bygone era. Enjoy the “time warp” experience, but watch out: Carbon Canyon Road culminates with a sudden dip of elevation combined with a challenging S-curve. Take it slow for a smooth ride!

Turnbull Canyon Road

Turnbull Canyon Road is a step outside Orange County in Whittier, CA. This route is well worth the trek, being one of Southern California’s most unique and intriguing historical sites. The strange history of Turnbull Canyon includes rumors of paranormal events - and if that isn’t enough reason to visit, you’ll also find sweeping views of the valley and four miles of hiking trails to enjoy.

Honorable Mentions

There’s no shortage of great riding routes in Orange County and the surrounding areas. Hacienda Road, running between La Habra and Hacienda Heights, is an excellent choice for beginners. Colima Road, between Whittier and Rowland Heights, is another one we recommend to novice bikers. Brea Blvd/Brea Canyon Road and Laguna Canyon Road offer short, pleasant rides for riders of all skill levels.
