Smartphones have become ubiquitous in the 21st century and people are always coming up with new ways to use them. If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, you may not realize that your phone can help to improve your riding experience in a number of ways.

Here are a few different apps designed to help motorcyclists stay organized and safe on their journeys.

1. Waze (navigation)

Need to find your way around a new part of town or plot a route for an upcoming long-distance trip? Download Waze and your problems will be solved! This app is superior to the mapping apps already on your phone because it can tell you where traffic may be bad, what the speed limit is, and other useful information. You can also use Waze to self-report information for other users, including road obstacles.

2. Evernote (organizational)

Want a way to keep track of all the details of your trips in one place? Try Evernote. This app is great for creating voice recordings and storing maps, photos, notes, and information from the internet that pertains to a given trip. Coordinating your trips can be challenging without a way to stay organized, so use Evernote to figure out what to pack, where to sleep overnight, where to eat, and what route you’ll take to arrive at your destination.

3. GasBuddy (fuel prices)

Gas prices are higher than ever these days, and everyone’s feeling pain at the pump, even motorcyclists. By using GasBuddy, you can skip those overpriced stations and locate a more economical fill-up on your route or just around town. GasBuddy keeps tabs of gas prices all over the country and it’s updated often, so you can rely on its accuracy.

4. First Aid By Red Cross (medical assistance)

Taking care of your health is as important on the road as off it. The First Aid By Red Cross app has preloaded information on a variety of medical emergencies and scenarios you may have to confront, so you don’t even need to be within a cell service area or WiFi to use it.

5. Motorcycle Weather (weather conditions)

Anyone who’s on the road needs to know what the weather’s going to be like on their route and at their destination. Motorcycle Weather caters specifically to — you guessed it — motorcyclists by allowing you to program the weather conditions that you’re okay with riding through into the app, so it can tell you whether or not a given route is safe for you to ride on a given day.
